Requirements to Become a Freelancer
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows
You need at least Microsoft Windows version 10, as older versions are no longer supported. We will check the version during the initial setup. If you have a Mac, unfortunately, you cannot work with us at this time. - 16,000 Kbps DSL Connection with Ethernet Cable
To ensure the systems run fast enough and VoIP works correctly, you need the appropriate internet speed. It is essential that you connect your computer to the internet via an Ethernet cable (LAN cable) to ensure your connection remains stable, and no calls are dropped. - USB Headset
To make internet calls smoothly, you need a USB headset. If you haven’t used one before and are unsure which one is suitable for internet telephony, you can check out this USB headset comparison. It’s important that you have one by the time you start your freelance job with us. - Monitors
For almost all projects, you’ll need to work with multiple systems. To keep track of everything and switch easily between systems, you’ll need at least two monitors. If you have a laptop, you only need one additional screen.
FAQs
Do I have to live in Germany?
No. You can work for us from anywhere. Depending on the project, there may be some restrictions, which you can see in the job listing. What’s important is that you have a business license or VAT ID, a fast and reliable internet connection (at least DSL 16,000 net), and a lockable room.
What equipment do I need?
For working from home, you will need a computer with a Windows operating system (from Windows 10), a USB headset, and a stable internet connection via LAN cable with at least DSL 16,000 (net).
Do I need experience in the call center/customer service field?
Experience in this field is an advantage. The most important thing is that you have a strong service orientation.
Which languages do I need to speak?
For most campaigns, you need to speak fluent German and be able to write correctly. Foreign languages are generally not required.
Do I need a webcam?
We’d love to see you as well as hear you. So, we’d appreciate it if you use a webcam. However, it is not a requirement.
When can I start?
After successfully completing the application process, it depends on when the next training for the campaign you chose starts. It may take a few days, but it could also be 2-3 weeks.
What happens with my applicant data and information?
Data protection is important to us. Your data in the application tool will automatically be deleted after 6 months unless you’ve actively confirmed that we can keep your data longer (e.g., if you want to apply for a project again later).
You are, of course, free to request the deletion of your data at any time, and we will implement it within a few days. We have GDPR-compliant contracts with the application tool provider Peopleforce, which can be read here: https://peopleforce.io/data-processing-agreement
Do I have to pay anything?
After successfully completing the application process, you will need to pay a fee of €2.90 per month for using our collaboration systems.
What will my work at CMX look like?
Depending on the project, you’ll answer calls, handle emails, or respond to chat inquiries. The specific tasks you’ll have depend on the campaign. This can range from simple order-taking to updating customer information or answering complex customer queries.
What times will I need to work for CMX?
There are no specific requirements. You can sign up for shifts within the operating hours of your project when it fits your schedule. However, this depends on whether shifts are available at the desired time. Once we publish the shift schedule (usually once per week) you can immediately book shifts for the next 3-8 weeks.
How many hours will I work for CMX, and how many can I work?
Generally, you can work as many hours as you’re able to alongside another freelance job. However, in each of our projects, we expect at least 15-20 hours per week to help you gain the necessary routine.
How will I be prepared for the projects?
For each customer-specific task, there will be detailed training that you can attend from home. Afterward, there will be virtual on-the-job training. This means that during your first steps in the campaign, our mentors will guide you intensively to ensure you're perfectly prepared.
How will I make calls for CMX? Do I need a personal phone?
All you need is a computer that meets the minimum requirements, as well as a USB headset. We’ll provide you with access to all the necessary systems, including a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) phone, which allows you to make calls through your computer. This is why you need a stable internet connection, as fluctuations can quickly lead to call interruptions.
Can I work other jobs while working with CMX?
Of course, you can have other clients besides CMX—it’s even encouraged. Please don’t see us as your sole source of income. As a self-employed person, you should always aim to have multiple clients to avoid becoming dependent on any one of them. You can also work with us on the side while being self-employed. Just make sure you check whether you need permission from your employer to do so.
